Description
Gingear is an indie games development studio located in Quebec City, Canada. It was founded by Maxime Beaudoin and Julie Lortie-Pelletier in February 2015.
History
Early historyMaxime is a long time veteran in the games industry. He worked at Ubisoft from 2005 to 2015 as a software architect, on projects such as Assassin's Creed: Syndicate, Assassin's Creed III and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Wii). Ten years later, he was ready to tackle new challenges. He wished to be part of a smaller team, to gain more creative freedom. Julie was born in a family of entrepreneurs. She knew she'd start her own business someday, but she was waiting for a tempting opportunity. When she and Maxime met in the summer of 2013, it seemed like a perfect match to start an indie games development studio.
Open BarAround the end of 2014, it was clear for both Maxime and Julie they wanted to make a move. They started their first project: Open Bar, a puzzle game for iPhone and iPad. At that time, Maxime was on the core team of Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Ubisoft offered to let him work part time on Open Bar until the end of Syndicate, which he gladly accepted. By the end of August 2015, Syndicate was mostly over, so Maxime left Ubisoft alltogether to devote all his efforts to Open Bar. The game was finished around mid-december 2015.
